After going through the first five chapters of Millard Erickson’s “Christian Theology”, I’ve come to a conclusion that there is a need for Christian theology in this modern world. As much as ideologies and beliefs in today’s world are relatively to be subjective, there is a growing need for something more substantial than just mere thoughts or ideas.
Theology itself provides answers to questions such as who God is and what are we to do with the knowledge of who this God is and so forth. Although this answers may not be deem as definitive by some, nevertheless answers are what people are looking for at this age no matter whether it is fix or fluid.
I believe the study of theology not only gives us insight on the word of God but it also prepares us to answer questions which may arise from people concerning our faith.
1 Peter 3:15 - Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

Amen, agree with you that we need for something more substantial than just mere thought or ideas. There are many people out there trying to impress others by sharing thoughts and ideas irresponsibly without counting the bad consequences that will bring to the society.
Proverb 18:21 said it well: "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."
If we did not study and discern the thoughts, philosophy & doctrine thouroughly. We might end up eating the wrong fruit which produced by others' tougues.
